Jeep won't start after driving unless it sits for 4 hours.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, inline 6.  It starts just fine in the
morning on the way to work and just fine after 8 hours at work.  It drives
great, no problems. However, if I drive somewhere and turn it off, it has to sit
for hours before it will start. It will try to start, turns over and there is fuel, but
it won't fire.  I have replaced the distributor cap, spark plug wires and the
rear 02 sensor. That seemed to have fixed it. The next day, it did the same
thing. My check engine light is on, that was diagnosed as the 02 sensor was
failing (I'm assuming it's the front sensor, which is on order). What else
should I be looking at?

Yes, I did get this fixed. Check your cam shaft sensor. Make sure you disconnect the battery when you do, as I didn't and then had to kill the battery completely before the computer recognized it was a new sensor. Other things I tried were the crank shaft sensor and the fuel relay. But I also had a mouse apparently living in the engine compartment and chewing through wires, which added random other symptoms and issues, so those may not help you.
