on keyless entry jeeps what causes the sytem to not respond is there a small battery?

thx very much yes i was talking about the push button key pad on the door do you know if comes apart easy lol i don't have the car here im buying it and they wanted to make sure it wasn't broken so i imagine the batteries wear down and they just stop working? baught for winters in the mountains
