How do you know when wheel bearings are going out on 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jack it up, just enough to get tire off ground, and put your hands on top and bottom of tire and wiggle it.. It should have no movement. Doing the same thing from sides is different, there could be play in steering, but not much. And please, do not have your feet/legs under car doing this. Also, it may have a sound that does not seem right, a grinding sound, and tires wearing unevenly
