It's called CATALYTIC CONVERTER and when it clogs up your car looses power and usually sets up the amber "check engine" light on the cluster. If you are referring to your Audi A6 2.8, you have 4 pieces of those expensive "bad boys" on it, if it is a high-mileage vehicle, defiantly not worth to fix, sale it to CarMax before it stops running...!!!

If catalytic converter gets badly plugged power and speed suffer. I have seen them so bad that a vehicle would only run 50 or 60 mph. There are 2 down stream O2 sensors that measure catalyst efficiency. If the catalyst get bad a check engine light should be illuminated on the instrument cluster.

I just bought one. Its a A6 2.7t quattro. Don't know the year yet. But mine don't go passed 20mph. Previous one said it needs new cats. Can I remove 2 and keep the other 2? Straight pipe the rest.
