the car just shut off and there are no codes in memory. have been read up on the normal problems but don't have any answers yet

What engine size. If it's a 2.7, the CPS is located right above the starter. If it has frayed/bare wires, it could be your problem. Hard to test them without an oscilloscope or auto shop gear.
