Why is air diverted to defroster when I turn on a/c

When I turn on a/c, air is coming thru dash vents.  After about 30 seconds later the air is diverted to the defroster vents.  This has the auto system

Found out the fix, at least for me. All is good now

My 2008 GMC Yukon is doing the same thing. It starts out fine and then ends up blowing out of defrost . I can cycle through the modes and get it back to vents but then it just does it again. WHAT did you do to fix this problem? Thanks for any help.
