2002 GMC Sierra. My horn doesn't work when I push on the top of the wheel. Why

2002 GMC Sierra, when I press the horn at  top of steering wheel, nothing
happens.  The horn honks when the center of the wheel is pressed solidly.  
Please tell me what is going on, and how can I fix it.  Thanks

Either the contact surfaces inside the steering wheel hub are not contaminant free (corrosion probably) or they have gotten bent out of alignment so they no longer make contact from that position on the wheel. A new switch is probably required to fix this.
