I have a 1998 GMC K1500, will not start until I pour fuel down throttle body, after that truck will run fine until it sits for about 4 hours, then will not start again, any idea? Once truck has been started I can drive and shut off and start no problem, once truck sits for about 4 hours or more it will not start unless I pour more fuel down throttle body. Turn key on and you can hear fuel pump running/humming, fuel pressure was between 52psi and 58psi when turning key on.

IF ITS A 1998 GMC OR CHEVY IT IS A VORTEC ENGINE WHETHER VORTEC V6 OR V8 AND POURING GAS IN THE THROTTLE BODY WILL ONLY START A FIRE EVENTUALLY BECAUSE IT'S FUEL INJECTION AND THE ANSWER YOU SEEK IS IN THE FUEL TANK..GO CHECK THE FUEL PUMP GROUND WHICH SHOULD BE HOOKED UP TO THE FRAMEWELL BEHIND THE DRIVERSIDE REAR WHEEL..IT MAY BE BROKEN .....OPEN THE FUEL DOOR, REMOVE THE GAS CAP, HAVE SOMEONE TURN ON THE IGNITION AND LISTEN FOR A HUMMING SOUND..IF YOU DONT HEAR IT CHECK FOR BROKEN WIRES AND IF NOTHING IS BROKEN YOU NEED A FUEL PUMP BUT IF YOU HEAR THE HUMMING HAVE YOUR FUEL PRESSURE CHECKED

I did have the humming when turning the key on, and the fuel pump pressure (Key on or Running) was in specs. However I did change the fuel pump after checking all other wires and that did take care of the problem, More than likely it you end up changing your fuel pump you could end up having to change brake lines and fuel lines due to rust.
