Won't crank

It only cranks when crossing over the
starter.the battery is new.

Could be ignition switch or neutral safety switch. Look at the lower steering column the neutral switch should be there, find the 2 wire connector with purple wires then jumper them together, does it start? If not use a test lite to check the purple wire as you turn the switch to start if there's no light the ignition switch is bad. I hopethis helps
