DO TRANSMISSIONS HAVE A SERIAL NUMBER OR HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY THEM

There will be one of two things. There will be a small metal tag on one of the bolts holding the tranny case together, OR, more commonly, there will be numbers and letters cast into thetrans case itself, like TH400, or 4L60E for example.

and some just have metric on the pan.
