Way back to 1991, original OBD, and even further back, cars came with specific engines & transmissions that had to remain the same, or electronics wouldn't work properly. So stay with what you have... Exactly. Long before 1990, you could put just about anything into a car and make it work because you didn't have computers..... I had a "63 Impala to play with. I bought a Corvette 327 that I converted from FI to dual-quads. Then swapped the Powerglide for a Turbo-hydromatic and got the rear end out of a heavier Chevy. Easy swaps, but that's not something you can do at all with newer cars.
