My 4 WD on 1993 GMC quit working?

Asked by migration_WVGary Sep 12, 2015 at 10:33 AM about the 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 K1500 4WD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No noises or warnings. It was working one day, not the next. Fuse OK Does anyone know where to locate the actuator on this truck and does it have a switch on the transfer case? Any help is appreciated. Truck is farm use only. Can't take it to garage.

I did more research with local friends and was told to check the actuator which is located on the front axle. It is an electric "plunger type" actuator which, when energized, brings and keeps the 4 WD in. Simple to change. Unplug the wire(2 wire harness) and using a large adjustable wrench, remove the actuator. reverse the process to replace with new one. Cost is about $70 for the part. Takes more time to get under the truck than to do the job!! Difficulty level: Novice
