Audible ticking noise while idling

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi guys I have a 1991 Escort I bought from my neighbor for 50 bucks as he just wanted it out of his yard.  It ran beautifully for about two months, then after an oil change, spark plug change, air and fuel filter change, I have an audible tick in the engine only while idling.  The noise goes away while driving but the car misses like crazy throughout all the gears.  It is a 1.9L.  Any ideas?
