My truck won't start or stay running

Asked by Butch173 Jun 14, 2016 at 01:46 PM about the 1990 Dodge RAM 250 LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1990 Dodge w250 5.9L 360.  A few month back I
went to the gym, came out and couldn't get my truck
started.  I left it over night.  The next day I went to check it
out and it started with no problem.  About a month later it
did the same thing, but in my driveway.

I went to my local parts store and one guy told me he had
grown up with a vehicle where they had to tap the gas
tank to get it running, and over time the fuel pump went
completely out.

I've replaced the fuel pump, rubber hoses, fuel filter and
fuel pump relay and still not getting it to start.

Any thoughts or recommendations for where to go from
here?

If fuel pressure is good, you may need to check for a firing issue,>>>coil

5.9 Cummins? I had a similar issue, in that it would start from cold then occasionally, randomly, it wouldn't restart after being driven. It would crank well, but wouldn't fire. After sitting for a bit it would start. Finally even after sitting overnight it refused to start. I had it towed to a local diesel specialist. I had done a lot of research, and pretty well narrowed it down to a solenoid on the injection pump, The shop confirmed that, and replaced the solenoid I think the solenoid cost $40, and $100 to replace.
