Have a 90 dodge c250 360. Starter comes out but
won't engage flywheel are those shimmed or not?
Also the battery had 9.87 volts would that cause
the starter to turn inside the housing but not
engage flywheel?

Battery is bad or low something caused it? charge it 12.6volts then load test it, then replace it! IF 60 months OLD... then check if the starter motor engages the flywheel, the starter can be worn out 1990 26 years old, unless you have changed it.

I got it figured out it had a motor transplant. Got rite starter. Turns over won't fire has fuel and coil is good
