What parts are you looking to change? The 1983 to 1992 Rangers are the first Gen Rangers. If you want the closet match you want to look at model years 1989 to 1992, because in 89 the Ranger had a refresh both interior and exterior. I would stick with a 1989 to 1992 if you want a proper parts truck.

Thanks the 92 has alot of rust so was looking at body parts as well as some running gear. I was also looking to swap transfer cases. The 92 has had several issues with going in and out of 4x4 it has the push button 4x4 and the 87 has shifter on floor.
