Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger 2WD 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed that is throwing codes for the EGR valve and the EGR valve sensor (it is the old style sensor, not the DPFE style).  My question is this, can the EGR system be eliminated without the Check Engine light being on all the time and how much of an effect will it have on my gas mileage if any?

You can block it but the Check Engine light will occur unless you can get a tuning software to disable it from the system.
