PT Cruiser 2005 Turbo Convertible A/C blowing hot when idle

Asked by Silsmojo Jun 18, 2018 at 04:30 PM about the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I'm idle or at a stop light, the A/C blows hot, but when I accelerate it blows cooler but not cold. A mechanic at work checked and said I had plenty of Freon and thought the problem might be the expansion valve but couldn't be certain. He's use to working on 20+ yr old package cars. Could the problem also be the compressor or the fan? I just spent a small fortune 2yrs ago when the head gaskets blew and everything else that comes with that, so I'm hoping this is not going to hurt if I have to take it to get fixed. Except for the A/C, this car runs like new and only has 86,000 miles on it. Not ready to give it up!! Help!

Clean A.C condenser with garden hose and nozzle maybe clogged with dirt and bugs causing little to almost no air flow across the coils.

I have had this issue/problem a few times - fixed at the dealer - not the a/c but a belt that is deep in the engines - usually costs $700 + to fix — this is a common problems with this car .. and guess what, yesterday lost the air again !
