Car wont start or crank

Bought a new ambient charge sensor the code kept throwing . so we changed it but now the car wont start at all unless you take  the sensor back out could it be defective or are we putting it wrong?

If you just take it out and leave an open hole, the car will start? And if you plug it in, the car will turn over but not fire up? Is this what's going on? I don't think there's a wrong way to insert it. It's round. I would plug the old one back in and exchange it.

Took battery out had it tested it is dead need new battery. Thanks everyone for your help. also since we puit the battery back into the car the check engine light did go off.
