When accellerating my pt cruiser(2002) sways to the left, and easing off it surgesoff to the right! Could this be worn engine mountings or worn rubber bushes somewhere?

This happens when i drive along and depress the gas pedal. It jumps to the left. letting go
of the gas pedal it does exactly the opposite. It is really scary and i must adress this
problem asap. Please help. Syb

Thanks Tom. I was also thinking along those lines. Front tyres are new, and the alignment was done at the same time.

check the engine and the trany mounts ...does it clunk at the same time?...also check the lower control arm bushings the rears like to separate and the rack mounts ...also check for the sub frame for rust

Luckily there's no rust on the subframe.There ia a clunk at odd times. All the evidence leads to worn bushings etc. The complete front n suspension was renewed about three years ago. I will go and get my hands dirty and check on all those points. Thanks guys, apreciaten the promt response. Have a wonderful Christmas. Syb
