92 Ford explorer door swap with explorer xlt

Asked by SD92029 Sep 04, 2016 at 02:32 PM about the 1992 Ford Explorer 2 Dr XL SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Someone hit my rear driver door while it was
open and bent it backwards. I removed the
door because it was smashed and would
line up properly. I picked a used door from a
salvage yard. The only difference is it was
off a explorer XLT. I am still having trouble
lining up the door, because the hinges are
bent a little. Do I need to replace the hinges
or can I bent them back and how? Thank you
very much.

Also check and make sure the door jamb, where the hinge attaches is not bent out slightly from being pulled backward. You may have to attach the door, check for alignment, remove door, do some door jamb alignment work, several times to get it to line up.
