my 2005 Taurus wont go into gear...why? it sarts, but when i hit the brake and try to put it in gear the shifter seems locked in place

Check to see if all the brake lights are coming on when you press the brake. If they aren't then you probably have a bad brake light switch at the brake pedal and possibly its fuse. The brake switch releases the shifter interlock that pins it in park until the brake signal is sent to it. if all the lights do come on then it is probably the park interlock that is faulty. They get sticky if covered in sugary liquid, you wouldn't believe how many places I've found soda remains in cars.
