Why does my 2005 Taurus occasionally slam hard when shifting 1-2? Hot outside temperatures, stop and go traffic.

Rebuilt transmission 35,000 miles ago. 70 degrees or more outside. Stop and go traffic.
Occasionally, the 1st to 2nd gear shift searches and then slams into 2nd gear at about
3000 rpm. Sometimes is chirps the tires.

you may want a transmission service now that things have been "slammed", for pieces of transmission in the fluid not filtered out, so get a transmission filter change and check your level these trannies are notorius...at least the early ones were--if fluid is still cherry red, but insufficient should look for a leak near the radiator flex butyl rubber lines turn to crap and start leaking too~

the fluid might have tiny bits of metal in it from bad gears, or from the transmission grinding. change the fluid and replace it, as well as the filter. and if it still keeps up you might have a leak, or the rebuild could be bad. little things first!

OR it could be a sensor going bad that lets the cooling fans know how long to cool down the tranny fluid.

slamming is a big indicator that the modulator could be failing, yea. my taurus had a rebuilt tranny in it and about 1000 miles after it had the modulator replaced because it was slamming.

Thank you to all. Just a note: I had the filter and fluid changed about 1500 miles ago (in cold weather.) Looks like the modulator is the next step.

It sounds like you have a bad 1-2 accumulator it is susposed to cushion the shift. You also could have a bad shift solenoid. Fluid is unlikely because for one you just had it flushed and it woul affect more than just one gear. And there are no "modulators" there are solenoids and they are electronically controlled.
Or whoever rebuilt the trans didnt do a great job could be something they didnt set up right. Hard to say.

there was a tsb on these trans back in the 90s i done many repairs for these concern my wifes 04 is doing it and i cant remember what spring i replace will post when i correct the problem
