AC Help. Description

Asked by SolidSnake7700 May 12, 2018 at 10:32 PM about the 2002 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The AC works fine. The heat works fine. It
works on feet or torso alone on heat. But the
minute I put it on the 3 settings feet and
torso, feet and windshield defrost , or
defrost, all on heat. The AC is running with
the fan on. The car also bogs down and up,
down and up, etc. The minute I unplug the
AC compressor. It runs fine on all the
settings on heat, but the AC compressor
don't kick on on AC. I'm stumped on it.

So the A/C kicks on when your using your heater (defrost can use A/C) and kicks off if turned to cold?

But why would it kick on the AC and fan on feet and torso together when it's on heat. It works fine on heat on them separately from each other. But the AC is running and it's cold on the feet and torso together.

I cleaned the IAC sensor with carb and choke cleaner, even cleaned the carb. It's still doing it. It wasn't the AC compressor that I disconnected. It was a AC temperature sensor. I disconnected the AC compressor itself. I can put it on the settings that was feet and torso, feet and windshield defrost, and defrost. It won't be blowing cold, but heat. But the fans still runs on those 3 settings. But the AC isn't, since I disconnected it. It don't bog down neither. I've never had this problem on my 98 Ford escort. I'm learning about about cars. But I'm stumped on this one.

With bogging down I'd look at A/C compressor locking up or a/c clutch on pulley/a/c compressor not disengaging but you should hear that going on too.

If bogging turns into stalling, fuel pressure may be low, may need a fuel pump/fuel filter, only use factory parts. You just may have multiple issues.

Even with the AC compressor unplugged. It still does it. It's only when it's in P or N. When it's in D or R it doesn't bog down at all. It revs a little higher, then it comes down to normal. It's doing it to all the 3 settings still, feet and torso, feet and windshield defrost, and defrost. All on heat.
