2006 Focus AC shuts off when fan is turned up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I think I've used the AC once or twice this season and it worked fine ... but suddenly yesterday, if the fan setting is on 1, the green light on the AC button lights up and the air blows cold (I think, but the fan is very weak at 1 so kinda hard to tell) but if I turn the fan up to 2 or higher, the green light on the AC button goes out and the air is warm ... Any ideas???
