Slipping transmission

When my car is ran for a while in City stopping and going in
the engine warms up a bit when you go to give it gas with the
automatic it won't engage and then it'll slam into gear and it  
only happens when after the engine is warm and it doing stop
go stop go thing to much what could this possibly be.

most probably something worn or failing inside the transmission. Have the 500 checked out by the dealer or mechanic. I think your vehicle has the CVT transmission and they are known for many issues as you are experiencing.
