My 1993 thunderbird idles very high and does not want to shift into over drive.  I have heard that it could be the idle air control valve causing both problems.  If anyone could tell me if that is true and were that part would be located I would appreciate it

it absolutely could be the air control valve. Not sure where it's located on your car. Get a Chilton or haynes manual. Thats what I used when I worked on my car, it was excellent.

it could be the idle stop screw on the throttle body, after you turn out the srew to the right spot you might need to adjust the trans. kick down cable
