06 Ford Explorer no reverse

Asked by GuruK9K6Z Nov 30, 2019 at 12:36 PM about the 2006 Ford Explorer XLS V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 06 Ford Explorer does not have reverse. In reverse the engine revs up
and down as though there is some load on it but it does not move or if it
does it has very little power. All other gears work fine including Low 1. I have
checked the fluid and it is fine. I have also added Seafoam Transmission
Tune hoping that maybe the servo pin was gummed up but I have driven
several hundred miles since and there is no difference in reverse.

My son's 06 just started doing the same thing. They are telling me it's the transmission. Did you ever get your problem solved? Odd thing is, it was fine until I had the valve cover gasket replaced. It seemed to come home with the reverse going out. Coincidence?

FOUND THE CAUSE IF YOUR CV BOOT LEAKS DO TO CUT YOU CANT SEE IT DRAINS DOWN THE OIL AND THEN BOOM WHEN IN REVERSE UNDER LOAD FORD KNOWS THIS IS BEEN PROBLEM DAY 0NE THEY REFUSE TO RECALL FIX A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT LEAVES YOUR WIFE STRANDED. WELL TAKEN CARE OF CAR THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO SO MANY FORD OWNERS.

Wrong. The weld on the clevis that the reverse servo presses on, breaks. Typical Ford issue
