Yes the rear window opens independently of the rear hatch, you have to click the trunk pop button on your keyless entry remote. Can't help you on the garage door opener.. Have you tried Googling it?

if you look on the right side of the rear license plate, up under the lip of the overhang, there is a rubber coated button which will just open the back window without the whole door going up. It DOES have to be in an unlocked position though!

You are wrong, i own a 2013 Limited explorer and neither of these options are on my vehicle. The remote option only opens the whole liftgate and the same goes for the rubber button that you speak of

I have 2012 and it has it. I need it for hauling. Looks like they discontinued the feature. Anybody know a 2014 vehicle that does this?

I have a 2016 Explorer. The rear window opened while driving setting off warning signals on the instrument panel. Had to stop on the Interstate and close the window. Problem is there is no way to open it. No button above the license. Nothing on the remote. Dealer service mgr claims it does not open. I know it does because I closed it.

There is a blue button on the remote that unlocks the rear window. Press it and you will hear a click as the lock releases the window.

I bought a 2017 Expedition in 2018. Just learned today how to open the window on the tailgate. Owners manual does not address it. I had to google to learn how.

Thank you all for your comments and information, I reently purchased and am in the process of restoring my 2002 Ford Explorer. It didn't come with a manual so I am brain storming trying to figure things out.
