Engine years

Asked by Shady_Kerry Feb 16, 2019 at 09:44 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What years and size interchange

1 Answer

90

it's not the years made, it's the engine types. 4WD have an extra timing chain than the 2WD. There's also multi-fuel variants. It's best to match same-to-same, and ALSO take the computer controls that are specifically programmed for that engine type. IF you put a V6 into something with a 4 cylinder, CHECK THE TRANSMISSION. They may bolt up the same, but the trans. bolted to a 4 banger may not hold up to a V6's torque
