2001 Ford Explorer

Asked by Rkwarner Nov 17, 2016 at 05:45 PM about the 2001 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer.  The starter keeps
going.  I'll take it back to the parts store where they
hook it up and say that it's fine but when I put it
back in my vehicle it won't start.  Just cranks but
won't start, loud though.  What would cause this?
What would make a starter keep going?

If you crank the starter for long periods of time you will burn it out. I think your problem is with the engine not the starter. Maybe you need a tune up and filter change.
