Ford escape 2006 gear selection is messed up

Asked by Thomas Feb 26, 2017 at 01:52 AM about the 2006 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi i went too start my car this morning and when i
took it out of park and put it in reverse on the
dashboard it said it was in drive and moving
forward then i put it in drive and it said it was in
neutral, now when i put it in park it goes to gear
one or two. So i switched the car off and
sometimes it wont switch back on? Is this a
problem with the gearbox or gear selector? I cant
figure out if its a mechanical or electrical problem

Much help would be appreciated thanks

Found out the problem the linken for the gear selector in the engine bay was pulled of its rubber seal that was worn out, slapped a new one in and was good as new
