rear disc brakes

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to remove the rear disc brake pads for replacement on my 2006 4 wheel drive Ford Escape. I have not been able to remove the calipers so as to replace the pads. Is their any bolts holding them on? and if so where is it and what size is it?

i believe there is 2 long bolts that are accessed from the back side of the caliper. an allen wrench is what they usually require

Ron789 and Chase257 - I tried to remove the calipers. Yes, they are held on with 2 7mm allen head bolts (covered with a rubber plug) - but I could not slide the caliper off the rotor. The pads and caliper combined do not clear the holding bracket. It looks like you have to slide the rotor off with the calipers. The rotor appears to be held on with a 1.25 inch nut (probably 31mm since my 1.25 inch socket was a little loose). I did not try to remove the nut. I had no way to prevent the axle from rotating and did not want to try and make a tool to fit over the wheel studs while I turned the nut - which is proably held on with >200 ft lbs of torque. I need detailed instructions on this one - I am stuck.
