2002 Ford escape battery drain problem

Asked by Aaron Aug 16, 2018 at 01:17 AM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, I have done some looking around online and
found that removing the #27 fuse on the inside
fuse box eliminates the issue, I am having a hard
time finding out what all is on this fuse and what
the possibilities of the root cause is... I know the
radio is on this circuit, and the radio will not power
on with the fuse removed. I also heard there is a
wire I can disconnect that disables power to the
radio when the key is off?
Thank you in advance for answers!

Most of the time the leads on the battery are a culprit. Try changing them out with new ones and see if that helps. We have a 2002 Mazda Tribute which is basically an escape at work and same issue. Battery drains quick and no starts half the time. Turned out there was a small crack in the positive clamp. Used a small piece of wire to take up the space and it fires up every time now and the battery drain seems to have gone away. Otherwise check your grounds. These cars have a very odd way of grounding, one just to the side of the battery located on the fender well goes bad too. Good luck
