my oil light was on so I went to get a oil
change and it's still on... is it safe to drive or
what could be wrong

It should be ok, long as there is no ticking or knock from the engine, sounds like the oil change light was not reset. Should go back to them and have them reset it.

No- you are taking a chance- get a mechanic to look at it- it could just be a switch- but what if the oil pump is worn out?

If the oil pump was worn out, no pressure, the engine would knock and tick very loudly, and it would do it right away at start-up.
