Is it OK to use a standard ( less wide) rim on a spare tire when your Trailblazer has 17'' ones ? I'm having a lot of trouble locating a spare rim.

Asked by sloppyjoe Jun 03, 2014 at 11:16 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT LS 4WD

Question type: General

I have an 06 Trailblazer with 17" rims that came with no spare (bought it used). Called all
the junkyards & nobody has a fit for a spare. A friend said I could use a smaller  rim & tire
just like a doughnut, to get to a repair spot.

buy a real rim and tire and figure out a way to stow it on board, then you'll have a real spare tire that you can actually drive on for more than a block

Thanks,Chassy. I plan on buying a real rim & tire ...to clarify my question, is it OK if the rim & tire are narrower: eg. 16 in instead of 17 in width.
