What would be the clacking noise I hear after accidently putting it in 4L at 40 mph?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was in snow about 40mph and accidently pushed 4l. It then started a clacking
noise. My husband had me stop, put it in park, reverse then 2 wheel drive and
the noise stopped, but now it starts again when in 4 high and 4 low

Maybe you accidentally damaged something but I would have a mechanic put it up on a rack for inspection.
