Silverado Engine Failure Possibly

Asked by GuruVG3NX Sep 26, 2018 at 10:23 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving this morning and had a feeling of lost power, or almost like being
out of gas. As I tried to move along at 35mph I heard some loud clanking in the
bottom end. I was able to go about another mile but couldn't get above 25mph
and then when I hit an incline it died and I had to slap it in to 1st gear to get to a
safe spot.

I seen a little bit of water in the spot I finally had to stop in. I have been smelling antifreeze for a few months and did a head gasket test and dye test but didn't find anything. I put antifreeze in any time I drive more than 1 to 2 hours. I'm guessing head gasket issue or maybe something more terminal. Have to decide to repair or just yank motor?
