Silverado is 2007 1500 LT CREW CAB 4X4. AVALANCHE IS 2002 1500 4X4. They both have G80 gears. I believe the onky difference is the 2002 avalanche has rear disc and the silverado has rear drum. I prefer to convert to the rear disc anyhow, but have never done this conversion type or axle swap. So I was wondering what all is involved, the difficulty and how to go about this conversion. ThE 2007 silverado 1500 LT 4x4 rear END is smoked do to the pinion losing its preload and coming in and out. So I have the 2002 Avalanche 1500 4x4 rear end just sitting hear ready and available. As I said the they both share the G80 gears. I think everything is same except drum brakes vs. DISC. SO I would need to convert the silverado to Disc as a part of the rear end swap whixh I prefer anyway. Thanks for all your help. This is my 1st time using this site and I truly appreciate your time and look forward to your response.

No you can not. Well techinically you can be it’s not a bolt on. The avalanche and suburban are built on the same chassis and have a traction arm style rear suspension. The Chevy trucks are leaf spring style rear suspension. So short of cutting off the mounts and welding back on to the other axle, it won’t fit. I believe the Tahoes were also like the avalanche and suburban suspension

I did this exact same swap took the gears from my 2000 Silverado rear end and put them into my 2004 Avalanche. Everything works fine afterwards.
