Depending on the brand you choose and whether you're doing the install yourself or having it all done anywhere between 3,500 and 7,000.

ok, now in the truck im doing a 4 inch body lift , cheaper and gives it a nice look, but i have floor by four (my name for the 4x4 shifter being on the floor) do i need a shift extension for the shifter so it can still engage 4x4 or can i just put the lift on and call it a day

You will probably need a shift extension, it's normally not included in the lift kit though. You could forego installing one but you'd be unable to engage and disengage four wheel drive from the cab.

i figured, how is that installed? im guessing id have to take it to a shop

No need to take it to a shop, just undo the shifter boot, pull it up and unscrew the shift lever, install the extension, screw shift lever onto extension, do the shifter boot up again and Bob should be your uncle.

A 4in body lift is a little on the extreme side of body lifts. This will effect anything that goes from the frame to the body, wires, fuel lines, steering, shifter linkage, brake lines, fuel filler neck, bumpers will look funny becasue they dont go up. Usually a 2in body lift you can get away with minor adjustments but not a 4in.

so should i go for a suspension lift to avoid all that or...? im not to knowledgeable on lifts

The thing is, these trucks are difficult to lift much more than 2 in. Everything is expensive on your year truck because that year range isnt as friendly to lifting.

Personally I'd go for a suspension lift, you'd still need to fit longer prop shafts and brake hoses but the remainder of the car is pretty much the same, so in the end less hassle and a nicer effect. But that's just my opinion...
