Problem starting 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 - changed fuel pump & wiring harness twice

Asked by Redacid22 Feb 04, 2016 at 06:37 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So the deal is I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500,
V6, single cab, step side. I started having problems
with it starting where it would take a few tries before
turning over, then eventually it wouldn't turn over at
all. I dropped the tank & replaced the fuel pump
along with wiring harness and it started like a
champ. Problem is 2 months later, the same
problem arose, again eventually not turning over at
all. replaced the fuel pump & harness again thinking
it may have just been a bad pump (used a different
brand), and again started like a champ,
then...again...almost 2 months on the dot, the same
problem. So that's what I've got and wondering if
anyone could shed light on the problem.

Check the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve, it should be 56 to 63 lbs. Cycle the key to build up pressure to the highest point, turn the key off and watch the fuel pressure gauge. It should not drop more than 5 lbs. in 3 minutes. If it does then either the fuel injectors, spider lines, or fuel regulator is leaking. The bad news is if you find this, it is recommended for lasting results to replace all as a unit, and it is spendy.
