Bad power, bad ground, if its just the cluster it could be the cluster itself. Have you had to jump it recently? An alternator that's putting out between 10-12 volts can make a car do some crazy stuff. Did you have a bunch of electronics running when it did this, radio, heater, headlights? If you take the truck to auto zone they have a machine to test the alternator while its still on the vehicle and at the very least it will rule that in or out. My brother inlaw's neon had an alternator that was putting out about 11.5 volts. It would run decent but when you turned on the heat the trans would stop shifting and stay in second gear (limp in mode) and when you turned on the headlights with the heat all the electronics in the vehicle would either stop or run slowly. It would restart after shutting it off as long as no accessories were on before it was shut off.
