Asked by Terry Dec 27, 2018 at 01:16 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Chevy Silverado was having
misfires on cylinders 1,3,5,7 so I checked the
voltage to each coil pack and found each
one reduced voltage starting with cylinder 7
being the highest with 10.8 volts and with
cylinder 1 being the lowest with 2.7 volts. So
I found a 12 volt wire on the wire harness
that was only hot with key on and ran a an
overlay wire to 1,3,5,7 so that they would
remain 12 volts constantly with key on. After
doing so the engine ran great. The question
is by bypassing computer and fuse box
could it cause damage to the engine or any
of the sensors by doing this?

The only problem with this is youve used ot as a good diagnostic aid but now you need to located the voltage drop, where theres one problem theres bound to be other circuits affected :)
