Asked by maint Sep 05, 2016 at 12:35 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: General

Would the 373 gear be too much for my truck with a 4.8 engine?
I commonly pull a 6x12 open trailer or 18ft bass boat.

no...the 3.73 is fine...more tq..but less top end..and you dont need top end...do you have the 3.43 in it now..i think you do ? and then theres the speedo gear to mess with unless you figure out 60mph is now really 70mph on the speedo

I'm wanting to change gears because when towing these light loads my truck has a hard time maintaining hwy speeds, trans is constantly changing even with towing button pushed.
