Whats the difference

I have a 2004 Chevy TB with a 4.2 inline 6.
I have a 6x10 trailer (a high one with 6 feet 3 inches of interior height) that I was going to pull behind it.
I don't believe my TB has the balls to do so and not do damage to it. But I may be wrong.
I'm thinking of getting a 1999, 1500 standard cab with a 4.3 v8.
I was told that even though the size was close, the truck would pull much better.
I'm wondering if this is the case or not, and why?
If there is no difference then I'd go to the 5.3 and leave it at that.

Thank you very much. That explains why when towing the empty trailer home from the mfg. I could go down to 3rd (out of OD) and it would pull fine but ate gas like a fat kid in a candy store. I guess with something under 3000 pounds GVW, the 4.3 V8 will be sufficient? Am I right? I don't mind going to the 5.3 but only towing 1 or 2 times a week, locally for 80% of the time. the 4.2 has more power than the 4.3 (the 4.3 is a v6). The only thing going for the silverado is that its a full sized truck. Both are technically a 1500 anyway. All that matters is the gears in the rear. Which ever has the better gears (higher numerical value) 4.10 would be amazing, 3.08 would be crap
My mistake. I'll stay with looking for a 5.3 V8 then. I don't mind sacrificing some mpg for the correct sized engine to pull my trailer, even though it is a relatively small cargo unit. Thanks Stephen
maybe I was a little over enthusiastic with 4.10, I believe chevy makes a 3.73 that would be great. 3.42 wouldn't be too bad either. Any less that that and it's not good. The 5.3 is a good platform, you mileage wont suffer much and the power is defiantly there.
