How can I tell if the motor in my truck has been changed or not?

Asked by RO Feb 15, 2015 at 09:09 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD

Question type: General

I had the motor changed in my truck. Want to know how can I tell if it got changed or just
fixed the same one. Were are the numbers on the motor? How do I check if they are a
match or not?

The numbers are on the back of the block which I doubt you can see with it in the truck. You could pull the valve covers and check the head casting numbers but if it was just a short block replacement they would have used your old heads. Kinda hard to tell.
