if a car is turned off why would the dash lights stay on

we just put a motor in a montecarlo and it runs but when we turn it off the dashlights stay on.why would it do that.would it be the wiring or a ignition problem

i bet you have a wire hook up backwards i had that happen to me b 4 when i was building a strip monte carlo car that i could take to the dragstrip it was barley street legal i found the wire and fixed its not that hard just trace wiring down its backwards or the ground isnt right. i think its has to wired to the side where it only gets power when key is in and on acc thats what i had to do

or the switch to turn your dash boars lights down or up all the way or even off could be fucked up or its wired to the wrong place
