Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. One day, my mom was driving and it just turned off and chugged to a stop. When she went to get it going again, it would get to about 10 or 15 and then die. So, we went and changed the fuel pump. After doing so, I drove it around the block, but it still did not get above 20 before dying. What could this possibly be?

did you try changing the fuel filter ? it may be cloged aside from that it sounds like the car is in limp mode

We had changed the fuel filter before hand. We have also cleaned the air filter and ran a systems check on the computer which came back clean. We also have a Loctronics system which could possibly be the error. Also, what is limp mode and can it be solved?

limp mode is a mode most cars have that help keep the car from damageing itself when something is wrong with it. it makes it so you vehicle will not go faster then 20-40 km/hr ussaly they throw a code if something is wrong but sometimes they do not. try unplugging your cars battery during the night and plug it back in, in the morning see if that does anything. If it was a fault with the computer system it the reboot would help it at least temporarily while you have it disconnected you can go over all your vacuum lines and fuel lines and wires check your spark plugs all the way back to your coil pack. as for the loctronic i would not believe it would be an issue but a computer reboot would bring its memory back to stock regardless i imagine so if it is this the car should work.
