Can you use a 2000 monte carlo strut on a 1997 monte carlo

No, you would need one from a 1995 to 1999 Monte. But for $50 for a new OE one, vs a used 25 year old one, I'd buy some new struts in pairs. You can reuse the springs if they aren't rusted or broken.
