Do you or when should you replace the timing belt on a 2006 Toyota Camry?

Your belt should be changed between 60,000 to 106,000 miles. While you are there you should change your water pump...
V-6 should be changed at 90,000 4 cyl engines should have a chain in 2006. This is according to the Gates Belt Company....https://www.gates.com/~/media/files/gates/automotive/c atalogs/automotive/timingbeltreplacementguide.pdf?la=en

Bob, I looked up in Gates Timing Belt replacement guide and they only show belt replacement for V-6, no mention of 4 cyl. I take this to mean it does not have to be replaced. This was my understanding. Thank you for the confirmation. Great engine, great car. Mine has 106,000 miles.
The 4cyl for the 2006 model year and up has a timing chain so no service required on it.
Timing chain has maybe gone in my 2006 4 Cyl Camry. Mechanic who diagnosed it did $800 worth of other repairs first which didn't fix the problem (car won't start), has finally discovered there is no compression in the engine and has diagnosed this as the problem. Any Toyota mechanics out there have any other suggestions or ideas ?

Heres the MOST valuable piece of advice anyone can give you...GET A NEW MECHANIC!!! Either your mechanic is a stupid as a box of bolts, or he/she is ripping you off BIG TIME!!! Charges you $800 for work done and THEN tells you he/she THINKS its the timing chain (which is maintenance free and is supposed to last the life of the vehicle btw!!!) . Either way...yeah...you need to NEVER go to that idiot EVER again for anything!!!
